About Friends of the Market House

Our Mission

The Friends of the Meadville Market House is a group that supports the Market House through event planning, landscaping, and fundraising.  Members of the Friends uphold three tenets in their recruitment and management of funds.

Tenet 1

Preserve and promote the Meadville Market House and Market Place of the City of Meadville

Tenet 2

Share the story of the Meadville Market House and Market Place to the public through various channels

Tenet 3

Develop the site of the Meadville Market as a useful living memorial to the history of the area as well as a functioning aspect of Meadville’s culture and economy

About the Landscaping at the Market House

Quite the effort goes into supplying and maintaining the plantings surrounding the Market House each growing season.  The plants to fill the 10 large hanging baskets, and the 4 concrete planters surrounding the Market House are donated primarily by the Meadville Garden Club and Linda Gleeson.  Linda Gleeson and possibly 1 or 2 volunteers plant the hanging baskets, concrete planters, and the 3 raised beds in the back patio area, and Linda fertilizes and pinches back flowers and plants throughout the growing season.  Garrett Gleeson of Fat Hawk Farm, Linda’s son, is a huge help with supplying and moving compost, pine needle mulch, and helps with weeding and watering.  John Fulmer waters the plants every 2 or 3 days from Spring through Fall, with help from Linda and Garrett.
